That's a dramatic change from 40 years ago, when lead times averaged 6 to 12 weeks, product selection was limited and no one even knew what phthalates were.

Mchael McKeldon Woody is President and founder of International Marketing Advantages, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in strategic marketing and mergers & acquisitions, and formerly VP International Sales & Marketing for The Quill Company.

During his 34 years in the promotional products industry, he served as Chairman of the Board of Promotional Products Association International, as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Promotional Products College Education Foundation, and as president of the New England Promotional Products Association. He was Counselor Magazine's International Person of the Year in 1999 and the New England Promotional Products Association's Person of the Year in 1992. In January 2013, he received the Distinguished Service Award from Promotional Products Association International.

He has also published numerous articles on issues including international marketing, total quality management, how European companies can best access the U.S. market, and China currency fluctuation. In April 2000, he testified before a subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the lessons of NAFTA for U.S. businesses. His book "American Dragon - Winning the Global Manufacturing War Using the Universal Principles of FEWER FASTER FINER" will be published in early 2016.
